The Conference of Montreal, presented for the first time in 1995 by the International Economic Forum of the Americas, is committed to heightening knowledge and awareness of the major issues concerning economic globalization, with a particular emphasis on the relations between the Americas and other continents.
The Conference also strives to foster exchanges of information, to promote free discussion on major current economic issues and facilitate meetings between world leaders to encourage international discourse by bringing
together Heads of State, the private sector, international organizations and civil society.

Growing Canada’s Health and Biosciences Economy: Findings of the Federal Economic Strategy Table
In collaboration with Health Canada and Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada
Health and biosciences are a significant contributor to Canada’s economy. Generating $7.8 billion in GDP in 2016, the sector is recognized worldwide for the quality of its science and health-care solutions. Canada is home to longstanding and emerging clusters of universities, entrepreneurs, researchers and capital in regenerative medicine, oncology, infectious diseases, metabolic diseases, neurodegeneration, genomics and personalized medicine. Canada also boasts several of North America’s top medical schools producing cutting-edge research. New growth opportunities abound in fields as diverse as digital health, artificial intelligence, drugs, precision medicine, big data and smart devices. Yet for all its strengths, the Canadian health and bioscience sector faces major challenges. Firms can find it difficult to have innovations accepted into the Canadian public health care system. Raising capital and finding qualified personnel are constant concerns. To chart a course for the future, the Government of Canada established in Budget 2017 the Health and Biosciences Economic Strategy Table. This industry-driven forum brings together CEOs and government officials to set ambitious growth targets, identify sector-specific bottlenecks to growth, recommend specific strategies to achieve the targets, drive long-term and sustainable economic growth, and create high quality jobs for Canadians. At the Conference of Montreal, the Chair and several members of the Health and Biosciences Economic Strategy Table will discuss their work and emerging recommendations to the Government of Canada.
