Montreal World Film Festival 2011: The perfect place to break down cultural borders

Montreal World Film Festival 2011: The perfect place to break down cultural borders: The Montreal World Film Festival doesn't take over the town the way the jazz or Just for Laughs fests do, but it quietly continues to do its own quirky thing 35 years down the road.

The opening weekend of this year's fest was marked by buzz for a Flemish film and the arrival of a member of one of Hollywood's most famous families. That neatly sums up the film festival: in Toronto it's all about the Hollywood stars, but here the excitement is all about a Flemish dramedy centred on three disabled guys in a Spanish brothel and an Israeli drama starring Hollywood auteur John Huston's son.
